She was born and raised in South India in a traditional priest family. She spent the formative years of her life in gurukula and ashram environments, where she was introduced to yoga and the Vedic tradition. She earned master’s degrees in English and Hindi literature from Mysore University, and previously worked in Montessori education as well as in Vedic gurukula service.
In 2007, she moved to Mysore, where she gradually became more deeply connected to Sharath Ji’s family and the practice. After the passing of Guruji Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, Sharath Ji asked her to remain in Mysore and work alongside him in the shala. At that time, Usha left behind a promising career opportunity in order to dedicate her life fully to practice, service, and yoga.
Karma yoga, surrender, and the depth of the guru–student relationship are central elements of her teaching. For her, yoga is not merely a physical practice, but an inner spiritual path.
Usha Rani Chittoor is an Authorized Ashtanga Yoga teacher authorized by Paramaguru Sharath Jois, and she continues her studies in Vedic chanting and philosophy.
We are honored to welcome Usha Rani Chittoor to the Bandha Works Shala in Budapest
During the three-day program, Usha Ji will teach one Led Primary Series class as well as two Mysore-style practices. The program will also include a conference, mantra chanting, and a celebratory dinner held in honor of Usha.
